So, here’s this list of things to do in case your schedule’s feeling a little empty. Everything from calligraphy to poetry readings. Enjoy the little downtime you have now, because remember: just two more weeks until finals.
There’s still time left in your day for two UD events: you can meet at the Macnab Rugby Pitch to watch or participate in rugby practice, or head over to the Haggerty Science Building for the St. Vincent de Paul Society meeting. Rugby is at 6 p.m. out on the field, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society meets at 7 p.m. in the science building, Room 212.
Ever wanted to use your hand like a wand and write really, really pretty cursive? Well, calligraphy. You’re in luck, because UD’s Calligraphy Club meets at 7 p.m. in Gorman C. Now go and write something pretty.
Are you a math whiz or someone who cares about finance? Good! Because I need some help balancing my budget this week. Oh, and there’s also this Certified Treasury Professional Exam Prep at 6 p.m. in Braniff, Room 4, for anyone who likes punching numbers a whole lot.
Beginning today, you can go and check out your fellow UD students’ artwork at the Senior Art Exhibitions. There are seven art shows total, including five painters, one printmaker and one ceramic artist. The exhibits opened Monday for professor review, and today the exhibits are finally open to the public. The Senior Art Exhibitions are hanging and displayed all around campus — the Thompson Loggia art gallery in the Haggerty Art Village, Gorman Foyer, Braniff Foyer and Blakley Foyer. The exhibits are on display until May 6, and May 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. there will be an open reception at which the public can meet with the student artists.
Graduate students and anyone else who wants to read an original poem is invited to the Graduate Poetry Reading at 7:30 p.m. in Gorman Faculty Lounge. The event details are a little vague, although I’ve been told there are plenty of sofas to relax on while you muster up the courage to read one of your own poems.
TGIT. It’s that time again. No, it’s not Friday. It’s Thursday. Join UD and your fellow classmates at 9 p.m. in the Rathskeller Pub this Thursday. Get ready for a wild night of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and bring in the new day, Friday, as we gear up for the weekend.
Stop by the Haggar Foyer at 11 a.m. to tune into your Student Government Senior Committee. Hear your student body leadership go over everything from your daily dining options to what activities will be put on next year’s calendar.
To end the month of April, you can attend this year’s Braniff Salon. In honor of the memory of University Professor Louise Cowan, Ph.D. (Dec. 22, 1916 – Nov. 16, 2015), the spring 2016 Braniff Salon will feature a panel of her students who studied in the Braniff Graduate School under her and are now professors themselves. They will lead a discussion of some of the lyric poetry she so loved.
Suit up for another UD athletic event this Sunday: the Athletics Banquet. Hear about your fellow students’ accolades on the field this last year. The evening will begin in the Rathskeller at 5 p.m., followed by a cocktail hour at 7 p.m in Haggar Reception, then a banquet ceremony in the Haggar Cafe at 8 p.m.
