Sherry L. Dellinger, who brings with her nearly three decades of higher education experience, has joined UD as the assistant vice president for student affairs. Having served as both an educator and leader on several campuses, Dellinger has dedicated her career to helping students succeed, a cause she calls her “lifelong God-given blessing.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Dellinger to UD,” said John Plotts, executive vice president. “She exemplifies our definition of success; her skills and expertise will strengthen student success in all aspects of college life at our university.”

“Student affairs isn’t just about lawn parties and programming outside the classroom,” said Dellinger. “Our ultimate goal is for students to make connections with what they’re learning in the classroom and practice critical thinking and informed problem solving as they address life issues and become leaders in their chosen fields.”

Dellinger was previously dean of students at Campbell University, a position she held for six years. Before that, Dellinger worked at several other institutions including Bluffton University, Southwestern College, Indiana University Southeast, Spalding University and University of Southern Indiana.

In addition to serving as a university administrator, Dellinger has taught courses ranging from “Academic Recovery for Freshmen” to “English Grammar and Usage” and has been involved with on-campus organizations. She has presented research at academic and professional conferences, such as “Cyber bullying in higher education: Legal and Ethical Issues,” and she’s served in a variety of different volunteer positions.

Dellinger earned a bachelor's degree in English and speech and a master's degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University. She received a doctorate in educational leadership from Spalding University.
