Thursday was officially the start of fall. When we’ll start experiencing cooler weather in North Texas, I don’t know — yesterday’s high was 95 F. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, this winter is expected to be much warmer than usual, so don’t expect those temps to be dropping fast anytime soon. For those who trust the weatherman, godspeed.

Don’t let those temps scare you though, because there’s plenty to do this weekend.

If you’re into fantasy role-playing then you can set off on your next fictional adventure this Saturday playing Dungeons and Dragons in Haggerty Science 001 at 11:30 a.m.

What are you going to get your family for Christmas? Let’s face it, money is sparse to the point of being practically nonexistent for college students. Well, you can practice your crafting skills to gear up for the holidays at the Crafting Club in Gorman E this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sunday Mass at the Church of Incarnation is at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

If you caught the early Mass service, then there’s still time to catch the men’s and women’s soccer teams throw down against Texas Lutheran University at noon and 2 p.m., respectively.

Monday

Featuring six-time U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, “The Middle East Meltdown: Causes and Consequences,” co-sponsored by the Alexander Hamilton Society, takes place at 6 p.m. in upstairs Haggar.

Ever wanted to use your hand like a wand and write really, really pretty cursive? Well, calligraphy. You’re in luck, because UD’s Calligraphy Club meets at 7 p.m. in Gorman C. Now go and write something pretty.

Tuesday

Dedicated to their own spiritual growth through service to others, the St. Vincent de Paul Society meets in Haggar Reception at 6 p.m.

Wednesday

For those who have a passion for debate on foreign, economic and national security policies, the Alexander Hamilton Society — dedicated to the belief in the American political system — meets in Gorman E at 7 p.m.

Whether you’re a writing god (like me) or a beginning novice, attend this week’s Writing Colloquia in Gorman C from 3-3:45 p.m. This week’s topic: “The Dos and Don’ts of Organizing Your Essay.”

Thursday

If you haven’t submitted your paperwork for graduation, today is your last day to file your graduation application for December graduation (undergraduate, Braniff and Neuhoff School of Ministry).

After anticipating the next Dallas Ministry Conference since last year’s, it’s finally that time of year again. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell, previous chancellor of UD and now the highest-ranking American clergyman in the Vatican, once called the DMC “truly an experience of walking in faith together” and “a time of fellowship, of growth, of worship and entertainment.”

The 10th annual DMC lasts Thursday, Sept. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. Visit the DMC for a complete conference schedule and list of speakers.

Only one more day until it’s Friday, and only two days until it’s Saturday and then the weekend. That means a total of four days until (lame) Monday. Get your Thursday on in the Rat at 9 p.m. for TGIT, and enjoy bringing in Friday with your classmates.

Friday

Enjoy Music on the Mall, starting at 10 a.m., while you’re walking between classes or headed to lunch.

To continue the series, Katherine Davis, assistant professor of English, will present “Philosophy Colloquium: Jane Austen and Philosophy.” Did I mention Davis was a Jane Austen scholar?
