How to Survive UD Finals

As the fall semester draws to a close, students brace themselves for the flurry of much-anticipated final exams with the hopes and intentions of ending the semester on a high note.

But how does one survive the carnage of week-long final exams?

Associate Dean of Constantin College and Professor of English Scott Crider works with seniors to help them meet graduation requirements. One such requirement, Crider explains, includes passing all of your end-of-semester final exams — which may seem obvious.

For students preparing to embark on this week-long testing phase, Crider offers some other insightful and informative words of advice and tips to help you pass (and hopefully ace) your finals.

“Do all the reading and take good notes beforehand, of course,” said Crider. “But my central piece of advice is to avoid anxiety. It gets intense at UD during finals, but anxiety does not help. Just study.”

Now, if you believe the key to passing your finals is staying up all night in a caffeine-induced state, Crider warns against the all-too-common pitfall for first-year freshmen and seniors alike.

“Remember to exercise, eat right and sleep,” he said.

“Once you’ve studied, relax, meditate and go in and enjoy your exams,” said Crider. “Learning is the highest pleasure there is, and a good exam is a learning experience; so, it follows, one should enjoy a good exam. And, by the way, you'll be home for Christmas soon with your family!”
