MLK Symposium to Explore Civil Rights Across Generations

Survivor and witness to the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, Dale Long, and Royalyn Reid, entrepreneur and 2016 Dallas Business Journal Minority Business Leader Award recipient, will speak at this year’s MLK Day Symposium on “The Role and Influence of Civil Rights Across Generations” on Monday, Jan. 16.

“The Role and Influence of Civil Rights Across Generations” will begin at 11 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room in SB Hall, and the panel discussion will be moderated by junior biology major Briget Hyde, BA ’18. Following the discussion, at noon, there will be a luncheon on the third floor of SB Hall.

“There will be three generations of discussion on civil rights,” said Greg Bell, associate dean of faculty affairs and associate professor of management in the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business. “What’s unique about this year’s MLK Day Symposium is that we also have a first-person perspective on the Civil Rights Movement from a victim of the 1963 church bombing.”

The event, which is co-sponsored by the Gupta College of Business, President’s Office and Office of Advancement, is free and open to the general public, but attendees are asked to RSVP by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, to vpena@udallas.edu. Space is limited.
