After calculating the donations from last week’s North Texas Giving Day (NTGD), the University of Dallas will retain its unofficial title as the most generous university community in North Texas. Five hundred and forty-five individual gifts were received from alumni, current students, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university adding up to a total of $240,833. This represents a 12 percent increase in funds raised over last year, and includes over $110,000 in matching and challenge gifts.

“We’re exceptionally proud that the university will continue its reign as North Texas’ most generous university community for the fifth year in a row. Every year, members of the University of Dallas community come together to reaffirm their support for this university. We are grateful for them, and for the essential investment they make in UD’s students and faculty,” said Erin Dougherty, executive director of alumni relations and annual giving.

Overall, the University of Dallas ranked No. 20 on the leaderboard for receiving the most gifts among all participating nonprofits, coming in sixth among educational organizations and schools; for most funds raised, the university ranked No. 23 among all nonprofits participating in North Texas Giving Day.

The Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) — the largest community foundation in Texas — first launched NTGD in 2009 to serve as a hub connecting local donors with nonprofits. Each year, CFT raises  and awards millions of dollars in NTGD bonus funds and prizes to participating nonprofits.

This year, North Texas Giving Day finished the day with a total of $39 million in donations for participating nonprofits, surpassing last year’s $37 million; this amount is the largest sum raised during a single online community “giving day” in the nation.
