On April 29, the University of Dallas community lost Professor Emeritus of Management Bruce Davish Evans, MBA, an influential and devoted leader in business education at UD.
Professor Bruce, as he was affectionately known, taught at the University of Dallas for more than 50 years. He missed just three classes between 1969 and 2019. A pioneer in business education, Professor Bruce established the Capstone Experience of the MBA program.
Evans became known as Professor Bruce as a compromise to accommodate the customs of his American students, who were used to casual conversations with instructors, and his international students, who expected to address their instructors with formal titles.
A colorful, creative presence on campus, Professor Bruce played the clarinet in his band, Sound Judgment, at university events for 35 years.
In 2020, Evans was recognized with a Haggerty Teaching Excellence Award the semester before he retired. He was inducted into the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business Hall of Fame the next year.
A celebration of life will take place on March 17, 11 a.m., at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home.
Gifts may be made to the Gupta College of Business Dean’s Excellence Fund at the University of Dallas, where they will be used for faculty development and student support to continue Bruce’s legacy as an educator. Checks may be made to the University of Dallas at 1845 East Northgate Drive, Irving, Texas, with the tribute noted in the memo. Gifts may also be made online at udallas.edu/give.
Please join us in praying for Bruce’s soul and for the consolation of his family.
