UD Community Mourns Loss of Beloved Professor

Professor Emeritus of Theology Mark Lowery, Ph.D., passed away the evening of Saturday, July 24, surrounded by his wife, Madeleine, and their nine children. The former long-time Theology Department chair and noted moral theologian retired from UD in 2016 after nearly three decades of service.

Remembered for his deep appreciation of Catholic theological tradition, Lowery was a  frequent patron of the Cap Bar, where he would often meet with students after class to carry on discussions or play cards.

A rosary and memorial Mass will be held inside UD’s Church of the Incarnation. The Lowery family is kindly requesting for individuals attending the memorial services to wear a mask.

Rosary: Thursday, July 29

8:15 p.m.

Memorial Mass: Friday, July 30

10 a.m.

An on-campus reception will follow Mass on Friday. For those who will be attending the Mass and reception, please email Julie Dougherty at julieannadougherty@gmail.com.
