Who’s ready for the semester to be over already? I’m more than ready. Just like I’m more than ready for this weekend to officially begin. But before we get to next week’s list of things to do, here’s a few events offered up this weekend. You don’t want to miss out.

The event everyone has been talking about is finally upon us on Saturday: the Braniff Salon. In honor of the memory of Louise Cowan, Ph.D. (Dec. 22, 1916 – Nov. 16, 2015), the spring 2016 Braniff Salon will feature a panel of her students who studied in the Braniff Graduate School under her and are now professors themselves. They will lead a discussion of some of the lyric poetry she so loved.

Today and tomorrow also mark the 34th North Texas Heidegger Symposium. Calling all philosophers! UD’s Professor Robert Wood, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor Cynthia Nielsen, Ph.D., will be speaking.

Monday

In the mood for some finer music than what’s currently playing in your iTunes? Come and listen to the chamber, voice and piano students’ spring recital this Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the upstairs Haggar dining room. The students will perform pieces they’ve been working on all semester with their private tutors and professors. I’ve been told the students are ready to suit up for a stellar performance to end the semester. A reception will follow the performances.

Tuesday

Now, have you ever wanted to use your hand like a wand and write really, really pretty cursive? You’re probably thinking Harry Potter, and that’s wrong. Harry Potter only wishes he could write this suave. His wrists and magical spells are no match. But if you’re in the mood for some calligraphy lessons and just want to scribble some fancy letter, UD’s Calligraphy Club meets at 7 p.m. in Gorman C. Now, Expelliarmus.

Wednesday

I’ll ask again, because my wallet is getting tighter and slimmer, and I need to afford my daily coffee at the Cap Bar. Is there a math whiz or someone who knows a thing or two about finance? Good! Because I really need some help balancing my budget. REALLY. Oh, and there’s this Certified Treasury Professional Exam Prep at 6 p.m. in Braniff, Room 4, for anyone who likes punching numbers a whole lot. Please, just don’t punch me after looking at my filing system of receipts.

Thursday

Convocation is Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the Church of the Incarnation for all seniors at UD this year. Get ready to turn from students into alumni. No more tests. No more homework. No more school…. For now.

There’s still time left in your day to suit up and head down to the Macnab Rugby Pitch to watch or participate in rugby practice. Rugby is at 6 p.m. out on the field. Don’t forget to bring the facepaint and extra bandaids, just in case. You never know when you might need some facepaint to bring out your inner rugby warrior. This is war, y’all. Not just rugby.

Preventing theft, damage or disruption to your company’s intel and information should be on every person’s radar. From 7:30 to 9 p.m., the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce will host cybersecurity industry experts to join in a conversation moderated by professors from the University of Dallas’ nationally recognized cybersecurity program. It’s Friday. Finally. It’s also your last opportunity to catch the Senior Art Exhibitions on display around campus in the Thompson Loggia of the Haggerty Art Village, Gorman Foyer, Painting/Printmaking Building and Blakley Foyer. Catch your classmates’ work before it’s too late. On May 6 from 7 to 9 p.m., there will also be an open reception at which the public can meet with the artists.
