Best Bets: Events to Anticipate, 5/7-5/13/16

Some of you have Saturday finals, and we’re sorry about that. But for those who don’t, or who need a break once they’re over, there’s a plethora of events happening over the weekend. Everything from the Spring Student Art Show to the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business 2016 Commencement. Now, if your schedule’s a little lonely, have no fear, because there’s plenty to do at UD before the summer officially begins.

John R. Lee, CEO of North American National Risk Services, will address college of business graduates during the spring graduate commencement. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Irving Bible Church. One-hundred forty-eight graduates will cross the stage, turning from students into University of Dallas alumni.

Monday

There are no planned events for Monday. So study, study, study. Your finals won’t pass themselves. But you can always take my finals for me.

Tuesday

Learn what UD is all about at Tuesday’s college of business summer orientation. OK, odds are, if you’re reading this, you’re already oriented to campus and UD. So if you spot a stranger around campus looking lost, be sure to give them a Texas-sized “Howdy” and welcome your future fellow students to UD.

There’s also this special Certified Treasury Professional Exam Prep in Braniff, Room 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. for anyone who likes to crunch numbers super, super hard and has an affinity for long digits.

Wednesday

Pray for those who can’t pray for themselves (and those who can, because we can all use all the help we can get), and join the UD Rosary Prayer Group in SB Hall in the Nealon Conference Room from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.

Thursday

You’ve finally made it. You’ve traveled across treacherous waters, smoldering-hot-lava volcanoes and through dreaded final exams to make it to the land of NO EXAMS LEFT. Yes, this is where you want to be right now, I know. Just wait for Thursday.

Surely you’re not worried about graduating or what your grades are this semester. But in case you are, grades are due at noon for graduates.

Friday

Instead of investing money into the stock market, I like to invest my money into my sock drawer. I call it my sock market. Ever heard of one? I put all my money in there. There’s no downside, low risk and high reward for wearing a clean, matching pair of socks. There’s also this Investment Planning session in SB Hall, Room 306, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. for anyone who thinks they can make a better investment for their future instead of stashing all their money into a sock market.
