Best Bets: Events to Anticipate, Week of 5/16/16

This semester was brutal. Final exams almost killed me, but the Cap Bar kept me alive (barely) and caffeinated. Now I’m ready to start my tan for the summer. Before you run out the door to buy a swimsuit and sunscreen, though, check out this list of things to do in the next few weeks. We decided to include a few more events in this week’s “Best Bets” just in case you didn’t already have enough planned for your summer. Are you ready?

Graduates, you’re still waiting to walk across the stage, so technically you’re still a UD student. Count your blessings, because the real world awaits you now. Before Commencement on Sunday, President Keefe is hanging around in the Haggar Cafe for the President’s Reception this Saturday, May 14, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Get your photo taken with the man himself, and use your last chance as a student to indulge yourself in some music, food and drinks.

Let’s try not to have a misspelled graduation ceremony like our neighbors at Texas Christian University. I don’t think that will be too hard. Seniors, you know what time you’re to report for duty on Sunday. Do I have to say it? Please be on time.

Monday

Enjoy the extra long weekend and summer, because there are no events planned for Monday.

Tuesday

There’s no more time to fret, because grades are due to the Registrar’s Office this morning at 8 a.m. There’s no time for make-ups, and you can’t ask your professor for an extension. Pray that all your professors graded your finals with ease and gave you a great grade for all your hard, hard work. Because that’s all you can do now.

For students who want to stay on the fast track and plow through a course or two in a month, Mayterm officially begins today for undergraduates, the Braniff Graduate School and the Neuhoff School of Ministry.

There’s also this special Certified Treasury Professional Exam Prep in Braniff, Room 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. for anyone who likes to crunch numbers super, super hard and has an affinity for long digits.

Wednesday

Pray for those who can’t pray for themselves (and those who can, because we can all use all the help we can get), and join the UD Rosary Prayer Group in SB Hall in the Nealon Conference Room from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.

Thursday

No events are planned for Thursday. Sorry guys and gals. Enjoy the day off.

Friday

If  you’re feeling the need to join your fellow students in the Catholic faith, UD’s Serra Club meets from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. in the Haggar Reception area.

Last week I told everyone about my infamous sock market. If you haven’t started your own yet, you’ll want to ASAP. I put all my money in there (and socks). There’s no downside, low risk and high reward for wearing a clean, matching pair of socks. There’s also this Investment Planning session in SB Hall, Room 306, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. for anyone who thinks they can make a better investment for their future instead of stashing all their money in a sock market.

Stay tuned for more events over the summer.
