MONEY magazine has released its list of the “50 Best Private Colleges for Merit Aid,” and UD is number one. Merit aid is awarded to students based on academic achievements, test scores, overall grades and other factors.
“In addition to our strong need-based financial aid program, we offer students many opportunities to compete for merit-based scholarships and other aid,” said Executive Vice President John Plotts. “The MONEY magazine ranking demonstrates our dedication to providing the nation’s best liberal arts education to any qualified student. Our goal is to recruit the very best students in the country, and the strength of our merit-based aid program helps us to do that.”
UD awards some 49 percent of students with merit-based aid, which is more than double the national average of students receiving merit aid. The university awards its merit aid through academic achievement awards, typically seen as scholarships, to deserving students without regard to financial need.
MONEY magazine based its calculations for “The 50 Best Private Colleges for Merit Aid” on data provided by the U.S. Department of Education, Peterson’s, PayScale.com and college measure calculations.
