As we’re nearing the end of October the leaves on campus are finally starting to change to red and yellow, but of course the green won’t start to fade until maybe after Thanksgiving. If you’re feeling opportunistic, we urge you to take advantage of the absolutely perfect weather this weekend.
This Saturday, you can catch this season’s Fall Ball and watch the women’s softball team take on Southwestern Assemblies of God in a double header at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Saturday’s high is 79 F (so says the meteorologist) so be sure to bring a light jacket for sitting in the bleachers during these back-to-back games.
Performing one of the most popular Spanish plays, written by the playwright Pedro Calderón de la Barca in 1635, Life is a Dream is the Drama Department’s first mainstage production of the year. Adapted and directed by Kyle Lemieux, drama department chairman and associate professor, Life is a Dream kicks off opening night at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Margaret Jonsson Theater; Faculty & Staff Night is Friday at 8 p.m.; and Alumni Night is Saturday at 8 p.m. A 7 p.m. reception will take place prior to the play during Alumni Night. Tickets for UD faculty, staff and students are free. RSVP and request for your tickets before performances are sold out.
On Thursday, UD alumni are also invited to "An Evening Celebrating the Work of Werner Herzog" with Scott Churchill, professor of psychology, at 6:30 p.m. in the Art History Auditorium. For this Alumni Film Night, watch clips and scenes from the German screenwriter and director Herzog — such as Burden of Dreams, Encounters at the End of the World and Even Dwarves Started Small — and engage in an evening of thoughtful discussion.
And, finally, on Friday high school seniors are invited to campus for one weekend to experience life as a UD student during Odyssey Days. High school students are immersed into the UD community by attending classes and meeting with faculty, staff and students, among much more. If you're visiting, be sure to stop by the Cap bar in Haggar.
