UD Welcomes Irving PD to Campus for Leadership Summit
Business Professor to Teach 90 Irving PD Officers About Emotional Intelligence

From Sept. 11-13, the University of Dallas will host the Irving Police Department for leadership training from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The University of Dallas is located at 1845 E. Northgate Dr. in Irving, and the training will be held in SB Hall, which houses the university’s Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business and is identified as Building 34 on the campus map.

As the result of a project initiated by UD Police Chief Russell Greene in May 2018, the Gupta College’s Manager of Executive Education Jenn Howard and Associate Professor Rosemary Maellaro won the training bid from the Irving Police Department (IPD) for their annual IPD Leadership Summit. During the summit, the university will welcome 90 police leaders, who will learn about key concepts in emotional intelligence (EQ). Maellaro will lead three-day-long sessions customized for the IPD leaders. There will be 30 officers onsite each day.

“It is vital for leaders in our organization to understand, develop and utilize their emotional intelligence,” said Irving Chief of Police Jeff Spivey. “The partnership IPD has formed with UD is invaluable and will allow our leadership team to learn these concepts from a leading academic in the field. I am so grateful we have this resource in our city.”

Irving PD is applying for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement credit for the class. Greene will provide lunch each day for the Irving PD officers in the university’s cafeteria, which is a short walk from SB Hall.
