Letter to Students 03/11/2020

03/11/2020

Dear Students,

No doubt, you are aware that many universities have had to make the difficult choice to move their courses to a distance learning model for a portion of the rest of the semester, or in some cases for the rest of the semester. Of course, we have already had to make that choice for our Rome campus.

I want to be clear that we have no confirmed or suspected cases on campus now, and classes are continuing as normal.

We are not yet at the point where a decision to move Irving classes online must be made, but a decision about whether or not to do that will be facing us soon. Your professors are currently working to be prepared for that contingency, and I urge you to do the same.

If you are leaving for spring break, I would encourage you to take all of your course materials with you so that you can be ready to engage with your professors remotely after the end of spring break. Please be assured that, in the event we have to move to a distance learning model, your professors will maintain the UD commitment to excellent instruction, even as they and you adjust for a different model.

I repeat, we do not yet know whether a delayed return to campus and a distance learning model will be necessary, but I wanted to encourage you to be prepared.

The latest updates will be posted to our university website on this page: udallas.edu/coronavirus/

Yours Sincerely,
Provost Sanford
