Sisters Serving UD: Sister Mary Angelica: A Thousandfold Back

It is no surprise that the University of Dallas, chartered by religious women, has had over 50 alumnae who have said “yes” to the call to religious life. In 1952, The Superior of the Western Province of the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, Mother Theresa Weber, declared, "We need a Catholic co-educational college in this area!" On May 25, 1955, the Sisters officially received the charter for the University of Dallas. UD's first trustees were all religious women: Mother Theresa Weber, Sister Mildred Manning, Sister Mary Frances Connaughton, Sister Mary Byron, Sister Myrtl Owens and Sister Elizabeth Johnston.

‘The Ultimate Things’: UD Honors Faculty in Annual King/Haggar/Haggerty Ceremony

In 1981, the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation and the Haggar Foundation helped create the King/Haggar Faculty Development Endowment, which made both the King Fellow and Haggar Fellow Awards possible and included funding for summer research stipends.

Gupta College of Business Adjunct Instructor Chuck Easttom, Ph.D., D.Sc., is in the final stages of his third doctorate and just started his fourth master’s. Physics, Chemistry Professors Receive Air Force Grant

In September, the U.S. Air Force awarded the University of Dallas and Cerium Labs a $500,000 STTR Phase II contract to develop a "Silicon Nitride Seal for Thermal Barrier Coating in Gas Turbines for Extended Engine Life.” Affiliate Research Assistant Professor of Physics Will Flanagan, Ph.D., and Associate Professor of Chemistry Ellen Steinmiller, Ph.D., are co-principal investigators on the project. This award builds on a smaller $50,000 Phase I award earlier this year. UD’s portion of the award is $150,000.
